Choctaw County Sheriff Scott Lolley is pleased to announce that residents of Choctaw County, Alabama will now be able to apply for pistol permits online. Over the past two years Sheriff Lolley noticed that several residents were having problems making it to the courthouse during regualar business hours. Many residents work away from home especially, in the oil and construction industries. Lolley also noticed that local mill workers were having a hard time making it into the office within the time constraints. The online pistol permit will solve these problems, and it will make this process more customer friendly to all residents of Choctaw County.
The online pistol permits will only be issued to residents of Choctaw County and the applicant must possess a current Alabama drivers license or Alabama identification card. When the online application is received, the sheriff’s office will perform the standard background check. Once the background check is complete, the sherriff’s office will mail the pistol permit to the applicant at their address of choice. There is an additional process charge of $3.75 for online pistol permits which covers the cost of the system conducting this process and for the postage to mail the permit. The standard cost of a pistol permit does not change.
