Around 10 A.M. today dispatch received a call of a shoplifter at Dollar General in Silas. While the deputy was en route to the call the suspect dropped the merchandise outside the store when the clerk’s confronted him. The clerks observed he had what appeared to be a sawed off shotgun inside of his pants. The store clerk’s were able to provide an excellent description of the vehicle and suspect. Proper notification was sent out to surrounding agencies.
The Choctaw deputy patrolled to Coffeeville and stationed at their Dollar General while Clarke County Alabama deputies converged to that same area.
While en route, A Clarke County deputy spotted the vehicle and turned around to stop him. The deputy initially lost site of the vehicle. Minutes later the deputy found the vehicle and performed a stop. It’s believed that the suspect saw the deputy and took a dirt road initially to avoid the him. The sawed off shotgun was not recovered.
The suspect was identified as Anthony Wayne Carey, 44, of Coffeeville, Mississippi. He was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substances, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Theft. The suspect was transported to the Clarke County Jail.
The excellent information provided by the clerks was key to making such a timely arrest.
